As part of the joint Aral Wetlands Project—implemented by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF)—an information meeting was held at Acharya University Uzbekistan in the Bukhara region. The project aims to enhance ecosystem stability and community livelihoods in the Lower Amu Darya and Aral Sea basins through the prevention of soil degradation and the integrated management of land and water resources in ecologically important landscapes.
During the meeting, project staff and experts presented ongoing efforts and achievements, emphasizing the importance of natural resource conservation and the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in managing protected areas. Discussions also addressed strategies for public awareness-raising and collaborative research with academic institutions in the project area.
A key outcome was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Acharya University Uzbekistan and the Aral Wetlands project, laying the groundwork for joint activities and knowledge exchange.
Founded in 1990, the Acharya Group of Institutes is based in Bangalore, India, and includes 10 universities and 15 research centers, educating around 15,000 students annually from over 70 countries. The Uzbekistan branch, opened in 2023, focuses on information technology education and research.
